Exeter murder: Family's heartbreaking tribute to Lorna England

The devastated family of a 'beloved' grandmother stabbed to death in a park have today paid tribute to the 'kindest, most generous and beautiful loving lady'. 

Lorna England, 74, was knifed in Ludwell Valley Park, Exeter, Devon, on Saturday in a fatal attack that sent shockwaves through the city.

Her alleged killer, Cameron Davis, 30, from Exmouth, has been charged with murder and appeared in court on Tuesday.

Now, Ms England's heartbroken loved ones have spoken out, paying tribute to the pensioner - hailed by neighbours as a 'pillar of the community'.

In a statement released by Devon and Cornwall Police, the family said: 'On Saturday 18 February, our beloved wife, mum, grandma and sister, Lorna England was tragically and suddenly taken away from us.

'Lorna was the kindest, most generous and beautiful loving lady. Her energy and zest for life was infectious. As a family we are heartbroken by her death.

'No words can describe the loss and impact. She meant the world to us. We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for all the support, kind words and sympathy we have received.'

The family have asked for privacy as they grieve and come to terms with their loss. 

Ms England was described as a 'pillar of the community' by neighbours, who was shocked and horrified at her killing. 

The 74-year-old was found with stab wounds in the park, in the Wonford area of the city, with police being called at about 4pm.

Ms England died at the scene despite desperate attempts by members of the public and paramedics to save her.   

The pensioner's death triggered an outpouring of grief, with locals leaving floral tributes at the scene. 

Her alleged killer, Cameron Davis, spotted by an off-duty police officer in the city's High Street on Saturday.

The 30-year-old was detained by armed officers outside the Yorkshire Building Society on the High Street at around 9.30pm.
